Date Torte

I have decided to finish off the rest of  1967 cookbook this week......so next week will start another year of Kansas City Kansan`s Silver Spoon Cookbook.

Date Torte

1 cup dates, finley cut
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 cup flour
1 Tablespoon cocoa
2 Tablespoon sugar
1 package chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped nutmeats

Combine dates, soda and hot water. Let stand. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and date mixture. Sift flour with cocoa. Add to batter. Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan. Sprinkle with 2 Tablespoon sugar, chocolate chips and nutmeats. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
