Fluffy Party Rolls
Mrs. H. L. spencer
2 cups cake flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
2 teaspoon butter, melted
Sift flour and measure. Add baking powder and salt. Sift. Add milk and stir until dampened. Then stir vigorously. Turn onto floured board and knead lightly 2 or 3 minutes. Roll out 3/4-inch thick. Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter. Fold each roll over and press edges together lightly. Place on greased pan and brush tops with butter. Cover. Let rise in warm place 20 minutes. Bake 425 degrees for 20 minutes. Again brush with melted butter. Bake 5 to 10 minutes longer. Remove and brush with butter. Makes 18 rolls.

Mush Biscuits
Here doesn`t like home-made biscuits!
Mush Biscuits
Mrs. Oren Chilton
1 quart boiling water
white corn meal
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 cake yeast
1/2 cup luke warm water
flour
2 teaspoon salt
Add enough cornmeal to boiling water to make mush. While hot add shortening and sugar. Soak 1 cake yeast in lukewarm water. When mush mixture is warm, add yeast and 2 cups flour. Let rise until double in bulk. Add 2teaspoon salt and enough flour to make a stiff dough. Knead for 10 minutes. let rise until almost doubled in bulk. Make into rolls. Let rise. Bake until brown at 375 degrees. Dough can be put in refrigerator after first rising for later use.

Biscuits
When I made these biscuits...they really didn`t rise that good, but then again I did bake them a toaster oven...get my new stove wednesday......
Hence...no yeast in these.

4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
2/3 cup sweet milk
sift flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt and sugar. Add shortening and blend until cornmeal consistency. Pour milk into flour mixture slowly. Add egg and stir to stiff dough. knead 5 times and roll out. Bake on cookie sheet 10 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees.

Grandma`s baking powder biscuits
This is not my grandmother`s recipe. ....She did`t use a recipe, neither of them did, at least I don`t remember them using a recipe, any who here is the recipe from the 1967 Kansan Silver Spoon Cookbook.
Grandma`s Baking powder biscuits
Mrs. Tom Selby
2 cups flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, unbeaten
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 Tablespoons sugar ( optional)
2/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 cup shortening
Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Add shortening and blend well. Pour milk in slowly and add egg. Stir until stiff. Turn dough onto floured board and knead 5 times. Roll out to 1/2-inch thick and cut using biscuit cutter. Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees. Makes 12 to 14 biscuits.
* note , if don`t have biscuit cutter, can use a glass.
